American Indian Language and Culture Education Board records, 1981-1997.

Minutes and correspondence of the 13-member board created by Chapter 346, Laws of 1979 to replace the Council on Indian Education. The board was defunct as of 2006. The board advised the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, the higher Education Aids Council, and the Wisconsin Technical College System on all matters related to the education of Native American students in Wisconsin. It also encouraged the establishment of American Indian language and cultural programs in school districts that enrolled American Indian pupils and in alternative schools with at least 75% Native American enrollment.
